The single most important “place” to develop your reputation as a freelance writer should probably be on LinkedIn as far and wide as possible until you lock into some niche or industry. You should do the same within other platforms such as Freelancer.com, Upwork.com, Fiverr.com, and the newer legiit.com to broaden your chances of landing freelance writing jobs.

So after researching, I learned that self-promotion as a freelance writer on LinkedIn was the motherload for potential clients (more freelance writing jobs). - Write a headline that contains a benefit to the viewer. Use keywords others might use when needing your services like, “freelance writer on LinkedIn”. Use commas or vertical bars (|) to separate phrases. This is an opportunity to sell yourself and land more freelance writing jobs.
- Include a professional email in your contact information. I use my website email; firstname.lastname@example.org
- Start building connections with colleagues and fellow writers.
- Make sure Linkedin states your profile is 100% complete.
- Ask personal connections to endorse your skills.

2. Connect Your Blog
Every freelance writer on LinkedIn should also have a blog to showcase example content to potential clients. A freelancer is no different than a business; both have a brand that needs to be nurtured and grown. This is your chance to get creative especially if you haven’t landed any freelance writing jobs to showcase.
3. Upload your Portfolio
In my case my portfolio is my blog but if yours is seperate, you can either upload it or connect it on LinkedIn to showcase all your talents.

4. Join and Participate in Groups
Networking is one of the best ways to find new clients and build a global network. As a professional network, LinkedIn has several ways to connect with fellow writers, including joining groups. Also one of the best ways to land freelance writing jobs is by word of mouth.
5. Reach Out to Potential Clients
This is where LinkedIn gets a little tricky especially since you’re limmited to 3 messages a month if you have free membership. But if you can afford one of their packages ranging between $239.88 to $1,199.40, searching for writing gigs will be a lot easier. If you are anything like me, you’ll find a way to contact a potential client but for now we are just talking about LinkedIn.

7. Utilize the “Who’s Viewed my Profile?” Tool
A basic LinkedIn account limits you to see the 5 most recent viewers in the last 90 days by where they work, where they found you from, and their job title. This is only if you have your privacy settings set to allow others to view your own name and headline and if the person checking out your profile is not searching incognito.
But don’t get discouraged, even though you can only reach out to three companies a month, each and every company you look at will potentially notice and reach out to you in return. Therefore increasing your chances of landing more freelance writing jobs.
To set your profile viewing options to display your name and headline:

Only 2% of buyers leave reviews for the products and services they use. Most clients would be more than happy to provide you with a testimonial or official recommendation through LinkedIn. You just have to ask for it. This is key to growth and building a good reputation as a freelance writer on LinkedIn.
It doesn’t matter where you are or who you are, if you’re job hunting, you should be on LinkedIn. The more information you provide a potential client to prove you’re a fit, the better chance you have of getting the job.
